The day after the newsletter went out, visits to my web page had doubled and page hits had tripled.  This immediately showed me that people who received the magazine electronically looked at my ad and then went on to look at my web page and had stayed longer and looked at more pages!"

TRY VIRGINIA BUBBLY FOR 2008!!
By Sharon Bradshaw for The Virginia Wine of the Month Club
www.vawineclub.com

Traditions are important as we anticipate celebrations marking the end of the old and the beginning of the new year. All the festive sights, sounds and scents remind us of good times with friends and families, holding to the familiar while looking forward to the future. The Virginia Wine of the Month club shares those feelings, and our December selection continues our tradition of ending the old year in effervescent style.

Virginia has a handful of wineries producing excellent sparkling wines, with Ingleside paving the way in the late 1980s with winemaker Jacques Recht. Dirgham Salahi at Oasis was also an early producer of sparkling wines. Even though Jacques and Dirgham have retired from their respective positions, both wineries continue to produce award-winning bubblies using the traditional methode champenoise style of production. Horton Vineyards, Prince Michel, Kluge, Veritas, Potomac Point and Thibaut-Janisson also use this "produced in this bottle" method. (More about sparkling wine production is at the end of this article.)

WINE GLASSES!  AVAILABLE ALL 'ROUND THE STATE
By Matthew Levy, Balzac Communications

 Eisch Glaskultpure

Eisch Glaskultur, maker of Germany's finest glass products, has developed two new innovative products perfect for gifting and entertaining: a "Breathable Glass" wine glass and a "No Drop Effect" decanter. The two products are superb examples of the Eisch tradition of combining generations of fine glassware craftsmanship and artistry with modern technology.

"Our new products have revolutionized the experience of pouring and enjoying a glass of fine wine," said Eberhard Eisch, President of Eisch Glaskultur. "With a sleek shape and special treatment of the glass surface that prevents wine from running down the side of the carafe, our 'No Drop Effect' decanter (SRP $149) protects against annoying drips and stains. A wine poured into one of our 'Breathable Glass' wine glasses (SRP $19-$27) will within two to four minutes show signs of aeration equivalent to a wine that has been decanted and aerated for one to two hours."
The Eisch family, having lived in the Bavarian Forest region for three generations, sees life and glass as inseparably linked to nature. This philosophy is reflected in their entire line of fine glass products, which features elements of the natural world in every piece. Its most recent creation, the "No Drop Effect" decanter, has been fashioned in the sleek shape of a duck.

"Our new 'No Drop Effect' decanter emulates the shape of a duck to allow for greater ease in the flow of wine from the decanter," said Eisch. "Duck-shaped decanters have their origin in the earliest wine jugs used in ancient times. Translated into a modern, attractive design, they combine traditional wine culture with today's knowledge of wine handling, with each decanter receiving a special proprietary treatment on the surface of the glass to permanently prevent drips from running down the outside."

The Eisch family, through three generations, has grown Eisch Glaskultur into one of the world's finest and most important glass manufacturers. Eisch Glaskultur products are currently available at Macy's headquarter stores and many Bed, Bath & Beyond stores nationwide, and online at www.bedbathandbeyond.com.
